ISLAMABAD; The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced an extension for taxpayers who file their returns through manual forms instead of the online portal, allowing them to submit their returns until November 30.
In a notification issued on Wednesday, the FBR clarified that it is phasing out manual tax return forms as part of its plan to fully digitise its data system. However, acknowledging that a small number of taxpayers still file manually, the board has decided to accommodate them for this year.
According to the notification, special facilitation cells will be established in every tax office across Pakistan to assist manual filers with legal and technical guidance. The FBR stated that these taxpayers would also be eligible for free assistance from tax lawyers if needed.
The extension has been granted under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, ensuring a smooth transition toward complete digitalisation of the tax filing system.
Earlier, the FBR reported receiving a record 5.9 million income tax returns for the tax year 2025, a 17.6 percent increase from last year’s 5 million. Out of these, 3.6 million taxpayers submitted returns along with tax payments, showing an 18.6 percent rise compared to 2024.
