RAWALPINDI; Authorities on Tuesday re-arrested 20 members of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) immediately after their release from Adiala Jail.
According to official sources, the detainees were taken into custody again on the orders of the Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi and were once more placed under detention at Adiala Jail under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).
The detainees belong to different cities across Punjab and were initially arrested during a province-wide crackdown on TLP activists following recent protest demonstrations.
The protests, staged in several parts of Punjab and Islamabad, turned violent last week, leading to intense clashes between TLP supporters and law enforcement agencies. At least three people, including a policeman, were officially reported dead, while dozens sustained injuries on both sides.
Authorities said the re-arrests were made to prevent any renewed unrest, with intelligence reports suggesting the group’s plans for fresh demonstrations. Security has been tightened across key areas of Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and Lahore, while police remain on high alert.
Officials confirmed that the situation in and around Rawalpindi remains under control and that strict measures are being implemented to maintain public order.
