KARACHI; A senior police official revealed that his driver was fined after being issued an e-challan for not wearing a seatbelt.
“My driver was issued the e-challan for not wearing a seatbelt,” the officer said, adding that the fine amounted to Rs10,000.
According to a press release issued by Sindh Police on October 28, a total of 1,535 challans were issued for seatbelt violations, 507 for riding motorcycles without helmets, 419 for overspeeding, 166 for running red lights, and 32 for using mobile phones while driving.
Earlier this month, Sindh Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon stated that one of the biggest challenges in Karachi is the lack of trained drivers, who are often responsible for serious road accidents.
Meanwhile, Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho said that the introduction of a faceless e-ticketing system would help curb misuse of authority by police officials and improve public trust by ensuring fair and transparent enforcement of traffic rules.
