RAWALPINDI; The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Rawalpindi on Wednesday issued notices to the Superintendent of Adiala Jail and the prosecution, seeking their response by August 29 on a petition filed regarding the medical examination of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.

The petition, submitted by Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan through her counsels, requested the formation of a medical board to conduct a comprehensive health evaluation, with particular emphasis on an eye check-up.

According to the plea, during a recent jail meeting, the former PTI chairman, aged 73, complained of severe stress and blurred vision. It noted that Khan has been incarcerated for over two years and last underwent a medical examination on November 4 of the previous year. Despite repeated written requests, no subsequent medical check-up has been arranged.

The petition further argued that the defense has no confidence in doctors working under the current Punjab and federal governments. It urged the inclusion of Imran Khan’s personal doctors in the proposed medical board, specifically naming Dr. Faisal Sultan, physician at Shaukat Khanum Hospital, and Professor Fuad Ahmad Khan, head of the Ophthalmology Department at Rawalpindi Medical University.

It was also contended that the former premier has been deprived of basic prisoner rights and subjected to solitary confinement multiple times. Therefore, the court was requested to immediately direct the Superintendent of Adiala Jail to establish an impartial medical board.

After admitting the petition for hearing, the court issued notices to the relevant authorities and adjourned proceedings until August 29.
