SPORTS DESK (MNN); The International Cricket Council on Monday unveiled the official Team of the Tournament for the latest edition of the T20 World Cup, with Pakistan’s opening batter Sahibzada Farhan earning a place despite Pakistan’s disappointing overall performance in the competition.
Farhan emerged as the only Pakistani cricketer included in the 12-member squad after delivering an outstanding batting display throughout the tournament. He scored a total of 383 runs, the highest tally by any batter in a single edition of the T20 World Cup.
The ICC praised the Pakistani opener for his remarkable consistency, noting that although Pakistan struggled at various stages of the tournament, Farhan remained one of the most reliable performers.
The 29-year-old right-handed batter also created history by becoming the first player to score two centuries in a single edition of the T20 World Cup.
One of his most memorable innings came against Sri Lanka in the final Super Eight match, where he scored a match-winning century that helped Pakistan secure a dramatic five-run victory.
During the tournament, Farhan registered centuries against Namibia and Sri Lanka, while also contributing two half-centuries in matches against the United States and England.
Another major highlight of his campaign was a record-breaking partnership with fellow Pakistani batter Fakhar Zaman. The duo put together a 176-run stand against Sri Lanka, which became the highest partnership for any wicket in the history of the T20 World Cup.
The ICC’s Team of the Tournament also featured four players from India, who lifted the championship title this year. The Indian players included wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson, opener Ishan Kishan, all-rounder Hardik Pandya and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah.
Other players selected in the team include England’s Will Jacks and leg-spinner Adil Rashid, West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder, Zimbabwe pacer Blessing Muzarabani, and South Africa’s Aiden Markram and Lungi Ngidi.
South African captain Aiden Markram was also named the captain of the Team of the Tournament for his leadership and performances during the competition.
In addition, the ICC named USA’s Shadley Van Schalkwyk as the 12th player in the squad.
The Team of the Tournament highlights the best performers from the global competition, recognizing players who delivered exceptional performances throughout the event.
