MIRANSHAH (MNN); At least one person was killed and 19 others, including two security personnel, were injured in an explosion near the Chashma Sarbandki checkpost on the Bannu–Miranshah main road in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s North Waziristan district on Friday, officials said.
According to police sources, preliminary investigations suggest that the blast occurred after explosives planted in a vehicle detonated near the security checkpoint. The explosion caused panic in the area and left several people injured.
Following the incident, authorities immediately closed the Bannu–Miranshah road for traffic as security forces rushed to the site and launched rescue and security operations.
Medical Superintendent of the District Headquarters Hospital Miranshah, Dr Asif Iqbal, confirmed that the injured were shifted to the hospital for treatment. He said the condition of at least four injured persons was critical.
Dr Iqbal further stated that an emergency had been declared at the hospital to ensure prompt medical treatment for the victims.
Police officials said security forces cordoned off the area soon after the explosion to prevent any further incidents. Bomb disposal teams and investigators were called in to collect evidence and determine the exact nature and cause of the blast.
Authorities added that a detailed investigation is underway and further information will be shared after the completion of the initial inquiry.
The latest explosion comes nearly three weeks after another powerful blast rocked the region. On February 16, at least two people were killed and 17 others injured in an explosion near the Miryan Police Station in Bannu district.
According to police, that earlier incident occurred when a time bomb planted in a motorcycle detonated in a crowded area. Among those killed in the explosion was a child.
Security forces have since increased vigilance in the region amid concerns over militant activities and repeated attacks targeting security installations and public areas in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
