KARACHI; The Embassy of Sweden in Islamabad, in partnership with Business Sweden, hosted the first-ever matchmaking event under the Sustainable Textile Platform (STP) in Karachi on Thursday, bringing together Swedish companies, Nordic green-tech innovators, academia, and leading figures from Pakistan’s textile industry.

The event, which marked a milestone for collaboration in sustainable textile development, featured global brands such as H&M, IKEA, and Atlas Copco alongside technology providers specializing in automation, electrification, renewable energy, water treatment, and sustainable materials.

Launched in 2024, the STP initiative aims to accelerate the green transition of Pakistan’s textile sector by linking Swedish expertise and innovation with local industry players. The platform emphasizes renewable energy, energy efficiency, and water solutions to address some of the sector’s most pressing challenges.

The daylong event was divided into two sessions. The morning highlighted presentations from Swedish brands, researchers, and technology providers, showcasing sustainability-driven solutions and innovations. The afternoon centered on one-on-one matchmaking, giving Pakistani textile suppliers the opportunity to explore partnerships with Nordic companies and discuss future collaborations.

Sweden’s Ambassador to Pakistan, H.E. Alexandra Berg von Linde, underscored her country’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s green transition.

“By bringing together companies, innovators, and academia, the Sustainable Textile Platform creates new opportunities for collaboration, helping Pakistan’s textile sector transition towards greener, more competitive practices while strengthening our trade partnership,” she said.

Emil Akander, Vice President for APAC at Business Sweden, also praised the initiative, noting that the connections made at the event would pave the way for long-term impact.

“Swedish companies bring innovative technologies and climate-smart solutions. This platform provides an excellent opportunity for exchange of knowledge with local manufacturers,” he added.

The matchmaking initiative signals a new chapter in Pakistan-Sweden economic ties, with both sides committing to foster innovation, strengthen trade relations, and support the textile industry’s shift toward a sustainable and competitive future.
