LAHORE; Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Thursday reaffirmed her government’s commitment to improving the lives of farmers, stating that “development of farmers is development of Pakistan.” She was addressing the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Agriculture Department and GCI for the operation and management of Model Agriculture Malls in Multan, Bahawalpur, Sargodha, and Sahiwal.
“Farmers were, are, and will remain with their brothers,” she said, adding that the upcoming Agriculture Malls will serve as a one-stop solution for farmers’ needs. The chief minister announced that all four Model Agriculture Malls will become operational within the next 45 days.
Maryam Nawaz highlighted that these facilities will offer agricultural inputs, easy access to loans, and various support services. “Modern farming equipment and tractor services will also be available at the Model Agriculture Farm,” she said, emphasizing that the latest machinery will be offered on rent to encourage mechanized farming.
In a significant move toward modernization, the chief minister also announced that drone spraying services would be made available to farmers. Additionally, she said 10 more Model Agriculture Malls would be established in other districts to expand access and convenience.
“We have introduced record initiatives for farmers in a very short time,” said Maryam Nawaz. “Our actions reflect a strong and practical commitment to farmers’ welfare.”
Officials briefed the chief minister on the broader vision of the initiative, stating that the Model Agriculture Farm will provide integrated solutions for farmers under one roof. “With these new facilities, farmers will no longer have to rely on middlemen or remain stuck in poverty,” the briefing noted.
The initiative is part of the Punjab government’s broader agricultural reform agenda, aiming to empower farmers through technology, access, and support.
