LAHORE; Negotiating committees from both the government and opposition have been formed to address the reference against suspended opposition members in the Punjab Assembly.

Political sources revealed that the government’s committee comprises Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman, Suleman Rafiq, Rana Arshid, Sami Ullah, Ahmad Iqbal, along with Ali Haider Gillani, Shafay Hussain, and Shoaib Siddiqui.

On the opposition side, the committee will be led by Opposition Leader Malik Ahmad Khan Bhachar.

The meeting between these committees is scheduled for today (Sunday). If the negotiations prove successful, the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly may drop the reference against the suspended lawmakers.

This development comes after the opposition created a ruckus during the assembly session on June 27.

In response, the Speaker suspended the membership of 26 opposition lawmakers and announced plans to forward a reference for their disqualification to the Election Commission.

The ongoing talks aim to resolve the issue amicably and prevent further escalation.
