Relief for power consumers: NEPRA approves cut in base tariff, sends decision for federal notification

Islamabad (News Desk) In a welcome development for electricity consumers nationwide, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved the government’s request to reduce the basic power tariff. The regulator has forwarded its decision to the federal government for formal notification, paving the way for lower electricity bills across the country.
As per media report this step will lead to average reduction in basic tariff of electricity to the tune of Rs 1.14 per unit and maximum reduction in basic tariff to the tune of Rs 1.16 per unit.
NEPRA accorded approval to government plea for reduction in basic tariff from July 01, 2025.
It is pertinent to mention here power division had filed petition in NEPRA in connection with uniform tariff all over the country. NEPA had heard this petition a day before.
In the wake of this move, the maximum tariff for domestic consumers will be reduced from Rs 48.84 per unit to Rs 47.69 per unit.
Tariff in respect of protected domestic consumers consuming from 1 to 100 units has been fixed Rs 10.54 per unit with reduction of Rs 1.15 per unit .
The tariff of protected domestic consumers consuming units ranging between 101 to 200 has been fixed Rs 13.01 per unit with reduction of Rs 1.15 per unit.
The tariff for non protected consumers consuming units from 1 to 100 has been fixed Rs 22.44, 101 to 200 units Rs 28.91 per unit, from 201 to 300 units Rs 33.10 per unit from 301 to 400 units Rs 37.99 per unit.
The tariff for consumers consuming 401 to 500 units per month has been fixed Rs 40.22 per unit.
Tariff for consumption against 501 to 600 units and 601 to 700 units with reduction of Rs 1.16 per unit has been fixed Rs 41.62 and Rs 42.76 per unit respectively . Tariff against consumption of above 700 units has been fixed Rs 47.69 per unit with reduction of Rs 1.15 per unit.
Tariff of Rs 3.95 per unit will remain intact for domestic life line consumers upto 50 units per month. Tariff of Rs 7.74 per unit for life line domestic consumers consuming electricity from 51 to 100 units per month will remain intact.
