MURREE; Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Wednesday unveiled a comprehensive development package for Murree, promising improvements in health, education, transport, and infrastructure to transform the hill station into a world-class tourist destination.

Addressing a ceremony at the inauguration of the Nawaz Sharif Cardiology Centre in Samli, Murree, the CM highlighted that the facility was completed in record time and had already become operational, with five angiographies carried out on its first day. She said cardiac surgeries would begin shortly.

Maryam Nawaz announced that Murree’s police, health, and education departments were now operating independently, while new roads had been built even before formal project launches.

She said schools in Murree were undergoing upgrades, a large-scale water supply scheme was underway, and a sanitation project had also been introduced.

Emphasising the government’s focus on tourism, the CM said a dedicated tourism police force had been formed, and the expressway had been completed to ease access for millions of visitors. The “Suthra Punjab” programme was already working to ensure the city’s cleanliness.

The new cardiac centre would not only cater to Murree residents but also serve people from Galiyat, she added. Plans were also revealed for a modern hospital in Bhurban, along with three dedicated buses for Samli Hospital.

Maryam Nawaz confirmed that 15 new buses had been ordered for Murree. The upcoming Green Line bus service would be free for students, women, and senior citizens, while a train service would also be launched to reduce dependency on private vehicles.

Criticising past governments for making “empty announcements,” the Punjab CM said her administration was committed to tangible results and had delivered projects without prior promises.

She stressed that despite challenges, including severe flooding in Punjab, her government had continued to push forward with development work.
