Web Desk; Following India’s victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final, controversy erupted as the Indian cricket team accused the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi of misconduct.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia alleged on Sunday that Naqvi took the trophy to his hotel after the final in Dubai. However, the ACC dismissed the claim as baseless, clarifying that the trophy and medals were removed in an orderly manner after Indian players refused to participate in the ceremony.
Reports reveal that the Indian team displayed non-cooperation during the presentation. Captain Surya Kumar Yadav and other players declined to receive the trophy from Naqvi, leaving the stage only after all officials had departed. India had earlier proposed that the trophy be handed over by Khalid Alzarouni, Vice Chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board, but this was rejected as it violated international protocol.
The incident delayed the presentation for 45 minutes, and ultimately, the Indian team celebrated without the trophy, which remained with the ACC.
The controversy further deepened after Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah was criticised for mocking Pakistani bowler Haris Rauf’s “plane down” celebration. Rauf had previously been fined by the ACC after complaints from India for making the same gesture during the Super Four stage.
On social media, users mocked Bumrah, suggesting the BCCI should complain against its own player. Some even joked about his gesture, alluding to the Pakistan Air Force.
The final, instead of being remembered for cricketing excellence, was overshadowed by political tensions, unprofessional behaviour, and accusations that highlighted India’s inability to separate politics from sport.
