Rawalpindi Court Hears Petition Seeking FIR Against Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza Over Alleged Blasphemous Remarks

RAWALPINDI: A petition filed to direct the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to register a case against Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza for allegedly making derogatory remarks about sacred personalities, particularly Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), came up for hearing at the Rawalpindi Sessions Court.

The petition was moved by Hafiz Ihtisham Ahmed, Central General Secretary of Tehreek Tahafuz Namoos-e-Risalat (SAW) Pakistan, and heard by Additional Sessions Judge Muhammad Tariq Ayub. Advocate Raja Imran Khalil appeared before the court on behalf of the petitioner.

During the proceedings, the Deputy Director of NCCIA Rawalpindi submitted a report explaining the reasons for not registering a case against Engineer Mirza. The report stated that an FIR had already been lodged under Section 295-C at City Police Station Jhelum based on the grounds cited in the petitioner’s application.

However, Advocate Raja Imran Khalil raised objections to the NCCIA report, arguing that the matter concerns the honor and dignity of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), and yet the agency submitted a misleading report. He maintained that the FIR registered in Jhelum is different from the petition they filed with the NCCIA.

He further explained that the Jhelum FIR was based on a video clip of alleged derogatory remarks made during a lecture, whereas their petition was specifically regarding offensive comments allegedly made during an interview with journalist Mian Imran Arshad. Khalil emphasized that the charges in their application were not addressed in the existing FIR.

After hearing the arguments, Judge Muhammad Tariq Ayub directed the City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi to present the complete record of the FIR registered against Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza at City Police Station Jhelum. The judge remarked that the case is of a highly sensitive nature and said he would review the record and hear detailed arguments before passing any order.

The court adjourned further hearing of the petition until September 11.
