Islamabad: In a strong show of solidarity, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Friday extended heartfelt congratulations to the Iranian people and government for their resilience in the face of Israeli aggression. During a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam, Speaker Sadiq underscored the enduring bond between Pakistan and Iran, rooted in shared religious, cultural, and historical ties.

Also in attendance were Deputy Speaker Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah and Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi. Speaker Sadiq condemned the recent Israeli strike on Iran, labeling it a blatant breach of international law and a serious threat to regional security. He welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire, stressing that the world needs a renewed commitment to peace, not further conflict.

Highlighting Pakistan’s longstanding role in promoting regional stability, he drew attention to the country’s firm response to Indian aggression, which he said exposed the strategic partnership between India and Israel. He further noted that India’s role in the Iran-Israel conflict presents an opportunity for Tehran to reevaluate its diplomatic ties with New Delhi.

The speaker expressed sorrow over the loss of more than 50,000 Palestinian lives due to Israeli military actions, calling it a tragedy that resonates deeply with the Pakistani people. He emphasized that both the Parliament and the citizens of Pakistan stand in full solidarity with Iran, pointing out that Pakistan’s National Assembly was the first to pass a resolution condemning Israel’s attack.

Over 200 Pakistani lawmakers echoed this support during budget debates for the 2025–26 fiscal year. Speaker Sadiq reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to strengthen its partnership with Iran, particularly in parliamentary and economic domains, viewing closer cooperation as key to fostering deeper people-to-people ties.

Ambassador Moghadam, in response, thanked Speaker Sadiq and the Pakistani nation for their unwavering support during difficult times. He praised Pakistan for being the first to stand with Iran after the Israeli strike and acknowledged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Parliament, and Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their principled stance.

The ambassador characterized Israel’s attack as a deliberate attempt to undermine Iran’s nuclear capabilities and highlighted increasing U.S. involvement as a sign of Israel’s faltering position. He expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting regional peace and stressed the importance of further enhancing parliamentary collaboration between the two (News Desk)
