ISLAMABAD: Electricity consumers across Pakistan could see a reduction of Rs1.75 per unit in their power bills as the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has filed a petition seeking relief under the quarterly tariff adjustment mechanism.
The petition, submitted for the fourth quarter of the 2024-25 fiscal year, proposes a total relief of over Rs53.39 billion for consumers if approved by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).
This potential reduction in electricity tariffs will apply to all consumers of government-run distribution companies (DISCOs) as well as K-Electric customers.
NEPRA is scheduled to hear the CPPA’s request on August 4. Following the hearing, the authority will make a final determination regarding the proposed price adjustments.
Officials suggest that the relief could increase further, with an additional reduction of Rs2.10 per unit likely for the months of September, October, and November if future quarterly adjustments are approved.
The decision comes amid ongoing efforts to ease the financial burden on electricity consumers while aligning power tariffs with fuel cost trends and seasonal demand fluctuations.
