Islamabad: Pakistan is bracing for widespread rain-wind with thundershowers over the next 24 hours, according to the latest forecast from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). This weather pattern is expected to affect various regions, including Kashmir, Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeast and south Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The Met Office has also warned of heavy falls at isolated places within this period, specifically in northeast and southern Punjab, northern Balochistan, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
These weather conditions are influenced by weak monsoon currents penetrating the country from the Arabian Sea, which are expected to strengthen further. Additionally, a strong westerly wave is anticipated to enter the upper and central parts of Pakistan.
Authorities and citizens are advised to remain cautious, as heavy downpours can lead to urban flooding in low-lying areas of major cities and potentially cause flash floods in local nullahs and streams, particularly in vulnerable hilly regions and hill torrent areas. Landslides and mudslides are also a risk in mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
