KOHAT (MNN); Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), one of Pakistan’s largest exploration and production (E&P) companies, announced further oil and gas discoveries at its Baragzai X-01 (Slant) exploratory well in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The company disclosed the development in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Friday.
The notice stated, “We are pleased to inform that OGDCL, as operator of the Nashpa Exploration License (65% working interest), together with its joint venture partners — Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) 30% and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) 5% carried interest — has made an oil and gas discovery over the Lumshiwal formation at its Baragzai X-01 (Slant) exploratory well in Kohat district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.”
OGDCL further shared that during the Cased Hole Drill Stem Test (CHDST-04) conducted in Hangu and Lumshiwal formations, the well produced oil at 225 barrels per day (bpd) and gas at 1.01 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) through a 32/64’’ choke size, at a wellhead flowing pressure (WHFP) of 190 psig.
The notice added, “The Baragzai X-01 (Slant) well was spud-in on December 30, 2024, as an exploratory well under the Nashpa Exploration License to test the hydrocarbon potential of Lockhart, Hangu, Lumshiwal, Samana Suk, Shinawari, Datta, and Kingriali formations.”
The well was successfully drilled to a total depth of 5,170 meters into the Kingriali Formation. Based on wireline logs evaluation, three previous Cased Hole Drill Stem Tests were conducted in Kingriali, Datta, and Samana Suk + Shinawari formations, which had already resulted in oil and gas discoveries.
OGDCL stated that this latest discovery is expected to contribute to reducing the energy supply–demand gap in Pakistan through domestic resources and to enhance the country’s hydrocarbon reserves, as well as those of its joint venture partners.
