Stockholm, Sweden: Pakistan and Sweden have reaffirmed their strong commitment to further deepen cooperation in crucial areas including the green transition, digitization, sustainable technologies, and information and communication technology (ICT). This affirmation came during the 19th round of Bilateral Political Consultations (BPC) held in Sweden on July 1, 2025.
Ambassador Muhammad Ayub, Additional Secretary (Europe) at Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led the Pakistani delegation, while Ambassador Mikael Lindvall, Director General for Global Affairs at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, headed the Swedish side.
During the consultations, the two sides engaged in a comprehensive review of the full spectrum of their bilateral relations, discussing various aspects of political engagement, economic cooperation, trade and commercial exchanges, and people-to-people contacts. Views were also exchanged on pressing regional and global issues.
The focus on the green transition underscores both countries’ dedication to addressing climate change and promoting sustainable development. Sweden, a global leader in green technology and innovation, offers significant expertise that Pakistan can leverage in its efforts towards a more sustainable economy. Similarly, cooperation in digitization and ICT is vital for Pakistan’s economic growth and development, with Sweden’s advanced technological landscape providing valuable opportunities for collaboration and knowledge transfer.
This latest round of consultations builds upon a longstanding and mutually beneficial relationship between Pakistan and Sweden, which this year marks 75 years of diplomatic ties. Both nations have consistently advocated for multilateralism and a rules-based international order, and they continue to coordinate on issues of mutual interest at international forums, including the United Nations and the European Union.
