KARACHI: Pakistan Super League (PSL) Chief Executive Officer Salman Naseer announced that an open auction will be held for the inclusion of two new franchises in the tournament’s 11th edition.

Speaking at a press conference at the National Bank Stadium on Wednesday, Naseer said, “An auction will be conducted for two new PSL franchises, and interested bidders will be provided a list of city names to choose from.”

He explained that the current franchise owners will retain the right to match the valuation of new teams if they wish to continue owning their existing sides. “With the revaluation of the six existing franchises nearly complete, the current owners will have the first right of renewal for the next ten seasons,” he added.

Naseer further clarified that if any franchise decides not to renew its agreement, its rights will be offered through an open process to new investors under the updated structure.

Responding to a question regarding Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen, who recently criticised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and tore up a legal notice sent to him by the board, Naseer said that PSL-related matters should be resolved professionally and privately.

“You want me to do the same thing they’re doing — to damage the reputation of this league. I won’t do that. Any issue will be discussed legally in the boardroom and resolved behind closed doors,” Naseer said.

Ali Tareen had earlier shared a viral video on X, criticising the PCB for what he called a “mediocre mindset.” In a follow-up statement, the Multan Sultans owner proposed reforms to enhance governance, transparency, and the long-term sustainability of the PSL, while expressing willingness to rebuild trust with the cricket board.
