TEHRAN; Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has expressed Tehran’s willingness to mediate between Pakistan and Afghanistan to help resolve their ongoing disputes.
During a meeting with Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Tehran on Tuesday, President Pezeshkian described Iran-Pakistan relations as warm, historic, and built on brotherhood and mutual trust. He said that the cooperation between the two nations could serve as a model for other Muslim countries, emphasizing the need for unity in the region.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 4th ECO Interior Ministers Conference, where Pezeshkian highlighted the deep historical and religious bonds between Iran and Pakistan. “Iranians consider the people of Pakistan as their brothers, and we are pleased with the growing cooperation between the two countries,” he stated.
He expressed hope that Minister Naqvi’s visit would accelerate the implementation of existing bilateral agreements, resulting in tangible progress in trade, border management, and counter-terrorism.
The Iranian president also stressed the importance of reducing tensions and avoiding conflict in the region, reaffirming Tehran’s readiness to help mediate between Islamabad and Kabul. “Today, more than ever, Muslim countries must unite in brotherhood and stand together against common challenges,” he added.
Minister Naqvi thanked Iran for hosting the ECO meeting and for its hospitality, noting that this was his fourth visit to Iran within a year—an indication of the strong and growing relationship between the two neighbours.
Naqvi praised Iran’s constructive role in fostering peace and cooperation, particularly in addressing border security, illegal immigration, and counter-terrorism. He also appreciated Iran’s principled stance and willingness to help reduce tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to continued collaboration.
