LAKKI MARWAT: A police recruit constable was martyred by terrorists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat district, local police confirmed on Wednesday.
Pakistan has witnessed a rise in militant violence since the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) called off its ceasefire with the government in November 2022, with KP and Balochistan remaining the most affected regions.
According to police, the constable was killed in the Darga forest of Nasrkhel, near the Sarai Naurang area of Lakki Marwat. District Police Spokesperson Qudratullah said the victim was undergoing training at the Hangu Training School.
“On Tuesday night, terrorists abducted him from his house in Nasrkhel and took him to a forest called Darga and shot and killed him there,” he stated.
The constable’s funeral prayers were held with full official honours at the Lakki Marwat Police Lines. A large number of officials, including District Police Officer (DPO) Nazir Khan, Superintendent of Police (SP) Investigation Murad Khan, police personnel and district administration officers, attended the ceremony.
Paying tribute, the DPO said the fallen constable had set “a shining example of bravery and sacrifice” by laying down his life in the line of duty.
“The entire nation is proud of this brave soldier. These cowardly acts of Fitna-al-Khawarij cannot weaken our resolve,” he said.
He added, “The morale of Lakki Marwat police is high and actions against Fitna-al-Khawarij will be further intensified. No sacrifice will be spared to protect the lives and property of the people, and the involved elements will be brought to their logical end soon.”
Fitna-al-Khawarij is the term used by the state for militants affiliated with the banned TTP.
Despite record militant fatalities, Pakistan experienced a significant surge in terrorism in 2025, with attacks increasing by 34 per cent and terrorism-related deaths rising by 21 per cent year-on-year, according to a report by the Islamabad-based Pak Institute for Peace Studies.
In recent weeks, KP’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) killed three terrorists linked to Fitna-al-Khawarij during an intelligence-based operation in Dera Ismail Khan. Days earlier, at least nine people including seven police personnel and two civilians were killed in separate attacks in Tank and DI Khan districts.
Earlier, the military’s media wing reported that security forces had eliminated 11 terrorists in two separate intelligence-based operations in KP. On the same day, a CTD official was martyred by unidentified gunmen in Peshawar, while another police official was shot dead in Bannu.
