DERA ISMAIL KHAN (MNN); At least five people were killed and 10 others injured in a suicide attack late Friday night at the residence of a peace committee member near Qureshi Morr, officials said.
Dera Ismail Khan District Police Officer Sajjad Ahmed Sahibzada said the explosion occurred during a wedding ceremony at the home of Noor Alam Mehsud, the local peace committee chief.
According to police, guests were participating in celebrations when a suicide bomber detonated explosives inside the house. The powerful blast caused the roof of the room to collapse, severely hampering rescue efforts and trapping several people under the debris.
Confirming the nature of the attack, the DPO said it was a suicide blast and added that an emergency was declared at the District Headquarters Hospital.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rescue 1122 spokesperson Bilal Ahmed Faizi said five bodies and 10 injured persons were shifted to the hospital. He added that seven ambulances, a fire vehicle and a disaster response vehicle were dispatched to the scene, while rescue operations were ongoing.
Security forces cordoned off the area and launched an investigation. Initial reports indicated that peace committee leader Waheedullah Mehsud, also known as Jigri Mehsud, was among those killed.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi strongly condemned the attack and sought a detailed report from the provincial police chief. He directed law enforcement agencies to identify and arrest those responsible.
“The provincial government stands with the families of the martyrs. All possible assistance will be provided,” the chief minister said.
KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi also sought a report on the incident and instructed authorities to ensure the best possible medical treatment for the injured, while expressing deep sorrow over the loss of lives.
Earlier this month, four peace committee members were shot dead by armed attackers in Bannu district. In November 2025, seven people were killed in an attack on a peace committee office in the same district.
