LAHORE (MNN); Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has constituted a three-member committee to provide legal assistance and welfare support to party workers imprisoned in Punjab and their families.
According to a notification issued by PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, the body has been named the PTI Punjab Legal and Welfare Committee. Haider Majeed, Faiza Murad and Ali Ijaz Buttar have been appointed as members.
The notification said the committee has been formed to support PTI members who have either been convicted or are currently incarcerated, as well as to look after the welfare of their families. All matters related to imprisonment, legal proceedings and welfare of PTI-affiliated prisoners in Punjab can be referred to any member of the committee.
It added that the committee will hold meetings as required and remain in close coordination with the party leadership. The office of the secretary general will be kept fully informed about developments and issues requiring intervention at provincial or central levels.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to providing legal aid and welfare assistance to its members and their families during these difficult times.
The move comes amid growing concerns among PTI workers, who believe that focus has largely remained on securing the release of party founder Imran Khan, while jailed workers are being overlooked. PTI workers say arrests continue to take place, particularly during weekly sit-ins outside Adiala Jail, but their plight has not received due attention from the leadership.
