LAHORE (MNN); The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has distributed 2.4 million free SIM cards to its beneficiaries across Punjab, enabling secure and timely disbursement of financial assistance through digital wallet accounts, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported on Sunday.
BISP Director General Punjab, Haider Murtaza, spoke to media during his visit to the SIM Distribution Centres in Muzaffargarh, where he reviewed the ongoing distribution process. He inspected operational arrangements, beneficiary facilitation measures, and overall service delivery at the centres. During the visit, Murtaza also interacted with women beneficiaries, addressed their concerns, and observed the process to ensure smooth, efficient, and respectful assistance.
The Director General highlighted the Digital Financial Literacy Training provided at the centres, which aims to equip beneficiaries with the knowledge needed to effectively use SIM cards and wallet accounts. Wallet accounts are being opened on these SIMs, and all BISP payments will eventually be disbursed exclusively through these digital wallets, enhancing transparency and promoting financial inclusion.
Murtaza emphasized that the SIM cards are completely free and warned beneficiaries not to pay anyone for them. He also advised women to safeguard their wallet information, PIN codes, and SIM details, and to report any issues immediately to their nearest BISP Tehsil Office or the BISP helpline at 0800-26477.
Praising the progress made so far, the DG instructed staff to expedite the distribution process while maintaining service quality, effective crowd management, and adherence to standard operating procedures. He reiterated a zero-tolerance policy for negligence or misconduct and encouraged field teams to continue working with dedication and professionalism.
The initiative is expected to empower women, strengthen economic independence, and modernize BISP’s financial assistance system through digital technology.
