PESHAWAR; A 13-member provincial cabinet selected by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi took oath of office on Friday at the Governor’s House in Peshawar.
According to an official statement, KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi administered the oath to the newly appointed ministers. Those sworn in included Meena Khan Afridi, Arshad Ayub Khan, Amjad Ali, Aftab Alam Afridi, Fazal Shakoor Khan, Khaleequr Rehman, Riaz Khan, Syed Fakhar Jehan, Aqibullah Khan, and Faisal Khan Tarakai.
Governor Kundi congratulated the ministers and extended his best wishes for their tenure.
Earlier, CM Afridi had finalized the cabinet list, appointing Muzammil Aslam and Taj Muhammad as advisers and Shafi Jan as special assistant. The PTI’s KP chapter confirmed the names on social media.
Former KP finance minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra congratulated the new cabinet, expressing hope for their success.
CM Afridi, who was elected earlier this month, had earlier stated that he would form his cabinet after meeting imprisoned PTI founder Imran Khan. However, after multiple failed attempts to meet him, Imran Khan’s sister conveyed that Afridi had full authority to choose his team independently.
Opposition parties had criticised the PTI government for the delay in forming the cabinet, warning that administrative paralysis could lead to instability in the province. The PTI leadership had also maintained that no individual facing corruption allegations or having a tainted reputation would be included in the new cabinet.
