RAWALPINDI; The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced on Thursday that a senior Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) commander was among four militants killed while attempting to infiltrate Pakistan from Afghanistan.
According to the ISPR, security forces detected the movement of a group of khwarij (terrorists) near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Bajaur district and swiftly engaged them. The encounter resulted in the elimination of four militants, including Amjad alias Mazahim, a high-value target who served as the deputy to TTP chief Noor Wali Mehsud and head of the group’s Rehbari Shura.
The ISPR stated that Mazahim was involved in numerous terrorist attacks in Pakistan while residing in Afghanistan and carried a bounty of Rs5 million. The statement added that the TTP leadership continues to orchestrate cross-border infiltration attempts from Afghan territory to boost the morale of its dwindling network.
“It once again proves that Afghan soil is being used as a safe haven by Fitna al-Khwarij to perpetrate terrorism against Pakistan,” the ISPR emphasized, urging the interim Afghan government to take effective measures to prevent such activity.
President Asif Ali Zardari praised security forces for successfully foiling the infiltration, saying that their courage reflects the nation’s resolve under Azm-i-Istehkam to eradicate terrorism.
Earlier in the day, the ISPR reported that 18 terrorists belonging to the Indian proxy group “Fitna al-Hindustan” were killed in two separate intelligence-based operations in Balochistan. Fourteen were neutralized in the Chiltan mountain range in Quetta, while another four were eliminated in Buleda, Kech district.
Weapons, ammunition, and explosives were recovered from the sites. The ISPR said sanitisation operations are ongoing to eliminate any remaining threats, reaffirming that security forces will continue counter-terrorism efforts with full determination.
President Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi all lauded the armed forces for their valor. They reiterated that the entire nation stands united with the security forces in the fight to eliminate terrorism in all its forms.
