RAWALPINDI: The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Tuesday confirmed the martyrdom of Captain Doctor Noman Saleem of the 71st Medical Battalion, Army Medical Corps, in a terrorist IED and ambush attack in Kurram district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to details, an improvised explosive device (IED) struck the rear vehicle of a military convoy.
Captain Doctor Noman, who was in an ambulance at the front, immediately stepped out and bravely engaged the terrorists as they launched a large-scale ambush. Despite being a medical officer, he joined his troops in direct combat to protect his men.
During the intense exchange of fire, Captain Noman was hit and embraced martyrdom. The ISPR described him as a courageous and selfless officer who chose to fight alongside his soldiers rather than seek shelter.
His valor and dedication to duty, the statement added, will forever symbolize true military leadership and sacrifice.
At least six soldiers, including Captain Noman, were martyred and 14 others injured in the coordinated attack, claimed to have been carried out by the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Security sources said that intelligence reports suggest the assault was planned inside Afghanistan, with the group allegedly receiving $500,000 in funding from India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) through Taliban Defence Minister Mullah Yaqoob.
Following the attack, the Pakistan Army conducted a targeted operation in the Torghar area of central Kurram, destroying a major terrorist hideout used by the TTP and its affiliate FAK for planning, communication, and logistical coordination. Controlled demolition explosives were used to eliminate the facility, the military said.
