KARACHI; The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has announced the temporary closure of national airspace for two days, from October 28 to 29, in light of regional security concerns. A NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) issued to all airlines and aviation companies stated that the closure would be enforced daily from 6 am to 9 am, lasting three hours each day.
According to official sources, the move comes amid reports of large-scale Indian military exercises taking place near the Pakistani border.
Indian media has reported that India is set to conduct a tri-service military exercise titled “Trishul 2025” along its western border with Pakistan from October 30 to November 10. During this period, India has also reportedly restricted airspace over parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan due to the scope of the drills.
The exercises, involving India’s army, navy, and air force, come at a time of heightened tension between the two countries.
During a recent visit to the forward posts in the Creeks area, Pakistan’s Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf reaffirmed the Navy’s readiness to safeguard the nation’s maritime frontiers.
The latest rise in regional tensions follows the April 22 terrorist attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir’s (IIOJK) Pahalgam area, which New Delhi blamed on Pakistan without providing evidence. Pakistan strongly rejected the allegations and called for an international investigation, which India refused.
In response to unprovoked Indian attacks that followed, Pakistan launched Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos in May, successfully downing seven Indian Air Force fighter jets, including Rafale aircraft, and dozens of drones.
After intense cross-border hostilities lasting 87 hours, a ceasefire agreement was reached on May 10 through U.S. mediation, bringing the brief conflict between the two nuclear-armed nations to an end.
