BANNU; A hand grenade attack on a police station in Bannu caused no loss of life or property, authorities confirmed on Sunday. Bannu Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sajjad Khan told newsmen that the incident involved unidentified attackers who hurled a grenade toward the police station.
“The grenade fell at a distance and did not cause any damage,” the RPO said, adding that the attackers managed to escape after the failed attempt. A search operation to trace the suspects is currently under way.
The attack comes amid a surge in militant activities across Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan. The Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) had ended its ceasefire with the government in November 2022, vowing to intensify attacks on security forces and law enforcement agencies.
On Friday night, police intercepted an explosive-laden rickshaw in Bannu district, killing three terrorists and foiling a potential suicide attack on a police post in the Mazanga area within Havaid police station limits.
A day later, on Saturday, unknown assailants launched a coordinated rocket and gun attack on the Azam Warsak police station in South Waziristan. According to police, the attackers struck from multiple directions, but police and Frontier Corps (FC) personnel responded swiftly, forcing the assailants to retreat. No casualties were reported in that incident either.
