Funeral Prayers of Orakzai Martyrs Held in Rawalpindi, Nation Pays Tribute to Brave Soldiers

RAWALPINDI; Funeral prayers of Lieutenant Colonel Junaid Tariq and Major Tayyab Rahat, who were among the 11 soldiers martyred in Orakzai District during an intelligence-based operation against terrorists belonging to the Indian proxy group Fitna al Khwarij, were offered on Wednesday at Chaklala Garrison.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir attended the funeral along with federal ministers, senior civil and military officials, and a large number of citizens. The participants paid rich tributes to the martyrs for their supreme sacrifices in defence of the country.

During the intelligence-based operation, security forces carried out a successful strike on the India-backed militant group, killing 19 terrorists. However, in the intense exchange of fire, 11 personnel, including Lt Col Junaid Tariq and Maj Tayyab Rahat, embraced martyrdom after fighting bravely.

Lt Col Junaid Tariq, aged 39, and Maj Tayyab Rahat, aged 33, both belonged to Rawalpindi. Nine other valiant soldiers also laid down their lives in the line of duty.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the martyrs, reaffirming that the nation stands united and determined against terrorism. He said the martyrs’ sacrifice reflects the country’s unwavering resolve to defend its motherland at all costs.

The martyred personnel will be laid to rest with full military honours in their native towns.
