Ethiopia, Pakistan Agree to Advance Cooperation on Skill Development

​ISLAMABAD; The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan have agreed to advance bilateral cooperation for producing skillful human resources for the development of their countries.

​The discussion was held during a meeting between H.E. Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary of the FDR Ethiopia, and H.E. Salik Hussain, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis & Human Resource Development.

​The Ambassador briefed the Federal Minister about Ethiopia’s homegrown economic reforms, which are aimed at fostering macroeconomic stability, encouraging private sector investment, enhancing domestic production, and improving the government’s capacity to deliver quality services.

​He noted that modern skills such as coding, artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, and computing are being inculcated among the youth to advance their productivity. The Ambassador proposed joint initiatives between the two countries to upskill their youth.

​Ambassador Dr. Jemal also highlighted the critical role the Ethiopian diaspora plays in the country’s economic development, particularly through the Government of Ethiopia’s “Back to Origins” initiative which encourages second-generation Ethiopian diaspora to return to Ethiopia to connect with their heritage, culture, and history, and contribute to the country’s future.

​The Federal Minister emphasized that Pakistan attaches great importance to Ethiopia and looks forward to strengthening its bilateral cooperation on skill development.

He lauded the visionary leadership that is transforming Ethiopia under Prime Minister H.E. Dr. Abiy Ahmed.
