ISLAMABAD; The Embassy of Japan organized a lively cultural exchange event on October 1 for students of the Japanese language from the National University of Modern Languages (NUML), Islamabad. The program aimed to strengthen people-to-people ties and offer young learners a unique chance to experience traditional Japanese culture firsthand.

Welcoming the students, Ms. Ura Mamiko, Deputy Head of Public Affairs at the Embassy of Japan, praised their enthusiasm for learning Japanese language and culture. She described language as a bridge that deepens friendship between the people of Japan and Pakistan.

The event included three interactive sessions showcasing Japanese traditions. The first session introduced students to traditional Japanese clothing, particularly the Kimono and Yukata. A lucky draw allowed three students to take part in a live demonstration of wearing a Yukata, which delighted the audience.

The second session highlighted the art of Japanese calligraphy, known as Shodō. Students practiced writing Kanji characters with traditional brushes and ink, experiencing the beauty and discipline of this centuries-old art form.

In the final session, students explored Japanese dining customs, focusing on the use of chopsticks. A light-hearted competition tested their skills by transferring beans between plates. The top two winners were presented with commemorative gifts by the Embassy.

Concluding the event, Ms. Mamiko emphasized that such cultural exchanges reflect the Embassy’s commitment to fostering youth-centered initiatives that enhance understanding and friendship between Japan and Pakistan.

Participants expressed gratitude for the opportunity, noting that the hands-on activities helped them better appreciate Japanese traditions. Many described the program as both educational and enjoyable, calling it an unforgettable experience that brought them closer to Japan’s rich cultural heritage.
