MOSCOW; Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has expressed Moscow’s position on the Gaza peace plan announced by US President Donald Trump, stressing the urgent need for an immediate and sustainable ceasefire.
“Russia has consistently called for an end to bloodshed in Gaza,” Zakharova said, adding that any initiative directed at halting the violence “deserves to be supported.” She noted that a durable ceasefire would not only stabilise the situation in the Palestinian enclave but also create conditions for rebuilding infrastructure that has been devastated during the recent conflict.
Zakharova further emphasised that the effective and smooth implementation of the plan could open the door to the resumption of “constructive dialogue” between Israel and the Palestinians. Such negotiations, she said, should be based on internationally recognised legal frameworks and ultimately lead to a comprehensive political settlement.
Highlighting Russia’s long-standing stance, the spokesperson reiterated that the end goal must be the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, living side by side with Israel in peace and security.
