QUETTA: Security forces and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) have conducted a series of major intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in different parts of Balochistan, killing at least 28 terrorists, including Indian-sponsored militants, officials said on Wednesday.

According to security sources, a heavy exchange of fire took place in the mountainous areas of Zhob and Sherani, where eight terrorists linked to the outlawed Fitna Al Khawarij group were gunned down. Weapons and ammunition were seized from the slain militants.

In another raid on Quetta’s Aghbarak area, the CTD acted on intelligence regarding the presence of armed terrorists. As the raiding team arrived, the suspects opened fire, prompting a retaliatory strike that killed 10 terrorists. Officials confirmed that the militants were involved in repeated attacks on security forces and sabotage activities.

Separately, 10 more terrorists, reportedly backed by India, were killed in Gazaband on the outskirts of Quetta. Security sources said a joint IBO was launched after credible information was received about the presence of Indian-sponsored militants.

The fierce gunfight left two security personnel injured, while a significant stockpile of arms, explosives, and ammunition was recovered from the hideout.

The crackdown followed a deadly suicide attack near the Frontier Corps (FC) headquarters in Quetta a day earlier, which left 11 people dead, including two FC soldiers, and over 20 injured.

Security officials confirmed that the attack was carried out by Indian-backed terrorists disguised in FC uniforms. An explosives-laden vehicle was rammed into the HQ entrance, while five other terrorists attempted to storm the building. Swift action by security personnel killed all six attackers, including the suicide bomber.

Security forces have now expanded clearance operations across Balochistan to eliminate any remaining threats, reaffirming their resolve to root out terrorism from the province.
