RAWALPINDI; A two-member team of doctors from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) examined Bushra Bibi, the wife of PTI founder, at Adiala Jail on Wednesday amid concerns raised about her health.
The visit came following her personal request, and was carried out under the direction of Dr. Naveed Ahmed Sheikh, head of the medical board at PIMS.
According to sources, the team included ENT specialist Dr. Altaf Hussain and neurologist Dr. Mansoor Iqbal.
A lady doctor posted at Adiala Jail also joined the specialists during the medical check-up. After a detailed examination, the doctors declared Bushra Bibi to be in generally good health.
However, hospital sources noted that due to her age, Bushra Bibi has been experiencing certain recurring issues such as ear complications and dizziness. In addition, they confirmed that the prolonged incarceration has subjected her to significant mental stress.
Bushra Bibi, who has been serving her sentence in Adiala Jail, also requested that her medical reports be further reviewed by senior neurologist Dr. Mazhar Bashah for a second opinion.
The health evaluation followed growing concerns expressed by her family. Aliema Khan, sister of PTI founder, confirmed that Bushra Bibi had been facing medical problems and had formally requested an external medical check-up.
The case has drawn public attention in recent weeks as the health condition of the PTI founder’s wife continues to be raised by family and party members, who argue that the authorities must ensure proper medical facilities in line with jail rules and international human rights standards.
