LAHORE; An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Thursday turned down a police request seeking further physical remand of Sher Shah, son of Aleema Khan, the sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, in connection with the Jinnah House attack case. Instead, the court ordered that the accused be sent to jail on judicial remand.
Sher Shah was arrested by Lahore’s Sarwar Road police in the high-profile case related to the May 9, 2023 incidents, when violent protests erupted nationwide following Imran Khan’s arrest. During the unrest, a charged mob stormed and vandalized the Corps Commander House, commonly referred to as Jinnah House, in Lahore. The incident prompted a large-scale crackdown against PTI leaders and workers, with hundreds facing trials under terrorism charges.
Rejecting the plea for extended custody, the ATC maintained that the prosecution had failed to justify the need for more physical remand.
Speaking to reporters outside the court, PTI leader Salman Akram Raja announced that a bail application for Sher Shah would be filed “today or tomorrow.” He also dismissed speculation about any family rift, saying, “Aleema Bibi has already clarified that we are siblings, and there are no differences.”
Raja further criticized the political environment, reiterating PTI’s stance of boycotting the upcoming Punjab by-elections. “It was the decision of the PTI founder not to participate in these by-polls. This is an artificial election, meant only to give legitimacy to an artificial assembly,” he remarked.
