ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced that Islamabad will soon be transformed into a “Free Wi-Fi City,” taking inspiration from Lahore’s successful experience in providing free internet access across key public places.
In the first phase, free Wi-Fi will be available at 30 locations in Islamabad, including metro and intercity bus stations, public parks, and other busy areas. Officials said the service will later be extended to more parts of the city.
CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa stated that the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) will manage and maintain the network, while CDA’s technical teams will provide support. He highlighted that the project is an important part of making Islamabad a technology-driven smart city.
The Administrator of Islamabad Capital Territory noted that Lahore’s free Wi-Fi model has been running successfully, offering reliable internet connectivity in public places, and Islamabad’s initiative aims to replicate and further strengthen that success.
By adopting this project, authorities believe Islamabad will not only enhance digital accessibility for its citizens and travelers but also take a major step forward in modernizing urban infrastructure.
