The couple, married for over three decades, has been a popular industry pair, but recent developments have fueled intense speculation about the state of their relationship.
In December 2024, Sunita filed an official petition for divorce in the Bandra Family Court, accusing Govinda of adultery, cruelty, and desertion under the Hindu Marriage Act. According to court records, she has been attending hearings regularly, including mandatory counseling sessions, while Govinda has been largely absent. A fresh hearing was scheduled after he failed to appear despite summons issued in May 2025.
In a video message shared earlier this year, Sunita spoke of her emotional turmoil, visiting the Mahalaxmi Mandir for strength. She expressed faith that those attempting to break her home would not escape divine justice.
The statements coincided with widespread rumors of Govinda’s alleged involvement with a younger actress, though these claims remain unverified.
This is not the first time divorce reports have surfaced. Earlier in February 2025, Sunita had briefly filed for separation before reconciling with Govinda.
The couple even traveled to Nepal together for a New Year puja at Pashupatinath Temple, and Govinda’s lawyer later insisted the two were “going strong.” Friends close to the family also stressed that Sunita is his anchor and that separation was unlikely.
Meanwhile, a resurfaced old video featuring Sunita added to the frenzy. In the clip, she jokingly calls Govinda “not a good husband,” though she quickly laughs and adds that she cannot leave him. Many interpreted the remark as light-hearted, but its timing amid the court case reignited speculation.
Both Govinda’s team and Sunita herself have since tried to calm the storm. Sunita explained that they occasionally live separately for practical reasons—mainly due to Govinda’s political commitments that bring constant visitors to their home. She emphasized that privacy was the motive, not marital discord. Govinda’s representatives acknowledged that Sunita had once filed for divorce but maintained that those matters were in the past.
Despite clarifications, gossip mills continue to spin, with every public appearance or remark from the couple sparking new headlines. Whether the court case will move toward reconciliation or formal separation remains to be seen, but for now, the Govinda–Sunita saga has become one of Bollywood’s most closely watched personal dramas.
