ISLAMABAD; Pakistan and Ethiopia jointly launched the “Plant Fraternity” initiative at Fatima Jinnah Park, F-9, Islamabad, as a high-level Ethiopian delegation planted seedlings to enhance bilateral relations and support environmental sustainability.

The event was organized in collaboration between the Ethiopian Embassy Islamabad, the Capital Development Authority (CDA), and the Human Resource Development Network (HRDN) of Pakistan.

A large number of youth actively participated in the plantation ceremony, marking the official launch of Ethiopia’s “Plant Fraternity” initiative in Pakistan.

Addressing the gathering, the Ethiopian Ambassador highlighted Pakistan’s vulnerability to severe climate changes despite contributing minimally to global carbon emissions. He said Ethiopia sent the delegation to support Pakistan’s climate resilience efforts and to share experiences from its Green Legacy Programme, under which over 41.2 billion seedlings were planted in six years to tackle deforestation, land degradation, food insecurity, unemployment, and poverty.

CDA’s Director General Environment, H.E. Awais Tarar, praised the initiative for strengthening bilateral ties and advancing Islamabad’s afforestation goals. HRDN CEO Ms. Robeela Bangash stressed the critical role of youth in climate action, urging them to actively participate in plantation campaigns to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change.
