DG ISPR Refutes Interview Claims, Stresses Accountability for May 9 Violence

ISLAMABAD; Director General ISPR clarified on Thursday that no interview was given by the Army Chief, dismissing media claims linked to a Brussels event where “hundreds of people took photographs.” He emphasized that there was no mention of PTI or any apology during the interaction, terming such reports a journalist’s personal attempt at self-promotion.

The DG ISPR reiterated that those responsible for the May 9 violence and their facilitators would be brought to justice. He expressed regret that a senior journalist displayed such “irresponsibility” in reporting.

Highlighting Pakistan’s regional importance, he said the country is frequently targeted because of its pivotal role in shaping the region’s future. He urged youth to understand the legacy and ideology of their state.

Referring to India, he said New Delhi believed that by backing militant proxies and launching aggression, it could discredit Pakistan’s military. “Instead, Pakistan and its armed forces responded strongly, and it was India along with its proxies that ended up discredited,” he noted.

The DG ISPR stressed that despite consensus in 2014 to dismantle the “illegal spectrum” of terrorism under the National Action Plan, complete implementation was still pending. He added that when action is taken against illegal Afghan residents involved in crime, certain political and criminal elements within Pakistan raise objections.

He called for full implementation of the 14-point National Action Plan, pointing out that governance gaps are being filled daily with the sacrifices of the military, police, and law enforcement agencies. “Pakistan’s youth remain our greatest asset,” he concluded.
