KARACHI – A District and Sessions Court has ordered police to register a murder case regarding the mysterious death of model and actress Humaira Asghar, while directing investigators to record statements from her family members and pursue the matter strictly under the law.

The order was passed on Monday by Additional District and Sessions Judge (South), who emphasized that police must proceed under Section 154 of the Criminal Procedure Code. “If the case is liable to be made, it should be registered,” the judge remarked, underscoring the need for due process.

Police officials informed the court that contact had been established with Humaira’s family and that her post-mortem had already been conducted, though the final forensic report was still awaited. Investigators also noted that samples of blood collected from her washroom and bedroom were being examined for evidence.

Counsel for the petitioner raised several red flags, arguing that the circumstances surrounding Humaira’s death on October 7, 2024, were far from clear. The lawyer highlighted that Humaira’s phone had reportedly been in use until February 2025, months after her death, and that suspicious activity was linked to her makeup artist, whose WhatsApp display picture was deleted after unanswered calls. The counsel urged the court to summon Humaira’s brother and other close associates to join the investigation.

The court was also told that the investigating officer had not ruled out the possibility of foul play. Police maintained that if credible evidence emerged, they would themselves proceed to register the case without waiting for further direction.

Humaira Asghar, who had built a career in both fashion and acting, was a rising figure in Karachi’s entertainment industry. Her sudden death shocked fans and colleagues, with many demanding clarity on whether her demise was the result of suicide, natural causes, or foul play. Activists and members of the showbiz fraternity have repeatedly called for a transparent investigation, stressing that unexplained deaths of female artists must not be dismissed without proper inquiry.

The court, wrapping up the petition, reiterated that police should move forward lawfully and transparently. The ruling has given fresh impetus to the case, with expectations that forensic findings and family testimonies could determine whether Humaira’s death was a tragic accident—or a possible murder disguised as one.
