LAHORE; An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore on Tuesday directed the confiscation of properties belonging to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Dr Yasmin Rashid, Ejaz Chaudhry, Omar Sarfraz Cheema, and Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed, a day after convicting them in two cases linked to the May 9 riots.
ATC-I Judge Manzer Ali Gill had on Monday sentenced the four leaders to 10 years in prison for their role in the Shadman police station attack and the burning of police vehicles near Jinnah House. The court also imposed a fine of Rs600,000 on each.
In addition, PTI leaders Aliya Hamza and Sanam Javed were handed five-year jail terms in the Shadman case.
During Tuesday’s hearing, Judge Gill issued jail warrants for the convicted leaders, ordered their property confiscation, and separately acquitted former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the same cases. However, the court noted that Qureshi would remain in custody due to other pending May 9-related cases.
The verdict followed hearings conducted at Kot Lakhpat Jail, where the ATC had reserved judgment on Saturday after completing proceedings in two sessions.
Last month, in another May 9 case related to violence at Sherpao Bridge, the ATC had acquitted Qureshi but handed the same four leaders 10-year prison terms.
