West Indies Beat Pakistan by Five Wickets in Rain-Shortened 2nd ODI, Series Now Level

MNN (Web-Desk); Persistent rain disrupted the second ODI between Pakistan and the West Indies in Tarouba on Sunday, forcing multiple stoppages and reducing the game to 35 overs per side. The hosts capitalised on the conditions, chasing a revised target of 181 with five wickets in hand and 10 balls to spare, levelling the three-match series at 1-1.

Earlier, Pakistan’s innings was curtailed to 171-7 in 37 overs after repeated delays at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy. Sent in to bat, Pakistan made a steady start through openers Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique, who added 37 runs before Ayub fell for 23 in the ninth over. Jayden Seales then delivered a major blow by bowling captain Babar Azam for a three-ball duck.

Shafique and skipper Mohammad Rizwan attempted to stabilise the innings with a 27-run stand, but Shafique departed for 26 off 40 balls. Rizwan, struggling to find momentum, was trapped LBW by Gudakesh Motie for 16, leaving Pakistan at 88-4. Hussain Talat’s 31 off 32 balls provided some resistance, but wickets continued to tumble.

Hasan Nawaz emerged as the standout for Pakistan, remaining unbeaten on 36 off 30 balls, including three sixes. Shaheen Afridi chipped in with an unbeaten 11 as rain ended the innings prematurely. Seales shone with the ball, finishing with 3-23, while Jediah Blades, Shamar Joseph, Gudakesh Motie, and Roston Chase claimed a wicket each.

In reply, the West Indies timed their chase well to secure victory and set up a decisive third ODI in the series.
