LAHORE; Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said on Wednesday that the era of noise and abusive politics has come to an end, and that the current civil and military leadership is sincere, competent, and committed to public service.

Speaking at the launch ceremony of the ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’ scheme, she stated that Pakistan is now in honest hands and that the country is witnessing progress on both diplomatic and economic fronts. She criticized those who, in her words, created chaos for political gain, saying, “Real leadership lies not in inciting unrest but in serving the people.”

Maryam Nawaz announced the start of the ‘Apni Zameen Apna Ghar’ project, under which 2,000 free plots will be given in the first phase across 19 districts. She said that landless citizens will receive plots and low-income families will be eligible for interest-free loans. She shared that 9,000 houses have already been built and another 45,000 are under construction. In seven months, 64,000 individuals have received interest-free loans based on merit.

She promised that her government will construct 500,000 houses in five years, aiming for 150,000 homes each year. Emphasizing inclusivity, she said that development will take place across Punjab, especially in South Punjab, which she said is a priority.

Maryam also announced the arrival of 1,100 electric buses in the province with a low fare of 20 rupees per ride. She committed to solving Punjab’s water issues and ensuring access to clean drinking water for all households. She said patients will soon receive medicines at their doorsteps, adding that the government should reach out to people rather than expecting them to come to government offices.

Regarding law and order, she said the formation of the Crime Control Department has resulted in a noticeable decline in criminal activity. She mentioned that she had instructed the police to remain vigilant ahead of protests, but no one turned up, declaring that the politics of confrontation has lost relevance.

Concluding her address, Maryam said, “We didn’t rely on slogans or theatrics. We chose to deliver. Let others continue to make promises—we are turning them into reality.”
