PTI Gears Up for Nationwide Protest on August 5 Amid Rising Political and Security Tensions

ISLAMABAD/SWABI – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has finalized preparations for its countrywide protest scheduled on August 5 to mark two years since the arrest of party founder Imran Khan.

Senior leader Asad Qaiser confirmed that the protest will be peaceful, lawful, and aimed at demanding justice and fair trial for the incarcerated former prime minister.

Addressing a press conference in Swabi alongside Shahram Khan Tarakai, Qaiser said, “This movement is not for confrontation but for justice. Imran Khan’s release could happen within an hour, but he refuses to make any deal.”

Imran Khan has urged all party members to set aside internal rifts and fully commit to the August 5 demonstrations. PTI also attempted to hold a workers’ convention at F-9 Park, Islamabad, but was denied permission by the district administration.

In response, PTI Islamabad President Aamir Mughal announced a new strategy of “peaceful political guerrilla struggle.” Party workers will block main roads briefly, share Imran Khan’s message, and disperse before police arrival to avoid arrests.

Meanwhile, reports suggest Imran has expressed dissatisfaction with KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur’s performance, particularly on law and order.

However, KP government spokesperson Faraz Mughal clarified that Gandapur will resign only if Imran Khan explicitly instructs.

This comes as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continues to reel under a wave of terrorist attacks. A recent police report reveals 476 terror incidents across the province in the first seven months of 2025, claiming the lives of 121 civilians and 179 security personnel.

Despite mounting challenges, PTI remains resolute in its political campaign, with Imran Khan expected to lead the August 5 protest symbolically from behind bars.
