PM Orders Dedicated Immigration Counters for Foreigners at All Airports to Boost Tourism and Investment

ISLAMABAD; Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday directed the immediate establishment of dedicated immigration counters for foreign nationals at all international airports across Pakistan, aiming to enhance the country’s appeal for tourists and investors.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the move is part of broader efforts to “promote tourism, ensure uninterrupted business activity, and attract foreign investment.” The initiative is expected to significantly reduce immigration processing times and streamline airport procedures for foreign visitors.

The PMO noted that the new counters will also indirectly benefit Pakistani citizens returning home, as the separation of foreign and local immigration channels will ease overall congestion.

“This step is aligned with a national strategy to present Pakistan as a more welcoming and efficient destination for international tourists, investors, and business delegations,” the statement added.

The announcement comes on the heels of international recognition for Pakistan’s tourism potential.

In February, Pakistan was awarded the Best Partner Pavilion Award at the New York Travel and Adventure Show 2025 — the largest annual travel event in the United States.

Earlier in January, CNN included Gilgit-Baltistan in its list of the top 25 travel destinations for 2025.
