ISLAMABAD; Local court in Islamabad has reinstated Dr. Ziaul Qayyum as the Executive Director of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), ordering his reappointment through a court bailiff after issuing a stay against his earlier dismissal.

On Friday, Dr. Qayyum officially resumed his duties as Executive Director and was warmly welcomed by HEC staff, who showered him with flower petals in celebration of his return.

Dr. Qayyum had previously been removed from office with the approval of HEC Commission members during the tenure of former HEC Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed. Following his removal, Dr. Qayyum challenged the decision in a local court, which granted a stay order in his favor. However, despite the court’s ruling, he was initially prevented from reassuming charge.

In response, Dr. Qayyum filed a contempt of court petition. Acting on that petition, the local court took up the matter and directed the enforcement of its earlier order through a bailiff, enabling him to formally retake office on Friday.

His return to the HEC headquarters was met with a festive atmosphere, as employees gathered to show support and celebrate his reinstatement.
