ISLAMABAD; The federal government is likely to lift the nationwide ban on new gas connections, with a plan to provide connections using Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) instead of natural gas.

According to official, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has submitted proposals to the federal authorities, recommending the provision of gas connections based on LNG supply. The plan includes several conditions aimed at securing the new arrangement.

One key proposal is to require consumers to submit a legal undertaking on stamp paper before receiving a demand notice for connection. In this affidavit, consumers would commit to accepting the LNG-based tariff and agree not to challenge it on any legal or regulatory platform.

The proposed framework also includes collecting a substantial security deposit from applicants seeking LNG-based gas connections.

Official further said that only those consumers who agree to the federal government’s conditions will be eligible for the new connections. These connections will be provided through the existing SNGPL network.
