Lahore: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, the Punjab government has achieved a significant milestone with the successful completion of its first pilot project to generate biogas from animal waste, as part of the “Shandar Suthra Punjab – Waste to Value” initiative.

During a briefing in a recent meeting, it was reported that biogas was successfully produced using biodegradable animal waste in the Lakhodher area of Lahore. This project is expected to generate an annual income of PKR 6 to 7 million, marking it as a crucial step not only for environmental cleanliness but also as a profitable economic venture.

The Chief Minister was further informed that the next phase of this project will involve the installation of a 50-megawatt Waste-to-Energy plant. This plant will have the capacity to convert three thousand tons of waste into electricity daily. Additionally, a model recycling park is also being established, which is projected to generate an annual revenue of PKR 190 million.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed the relevant authorities to modernize waste management practices and expand this model to other cities across the province. The goal is to simultaneously achieve the objectives of cleanliness, energy production, and revenue generation. This project is set to provide an eco-friendly solution while also contributing positively to the province’s economy.
