ISLAMABAD; Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to upholding international law, promoting peace in the region, and pursuing sustainable development through dialogue and cooperation.

He made these remarks during a meeting in Islamabad with Ousmane Dione, the World Bank’s Regional Vice President for the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral collaboration to support Pakistan’s socio-economic priorities.

PM Shehbaz appreciated the World Bank’s continued and principled support for Pakistan, especially in response to India’s unilateral and unlawful actions that have violated international agreements such as the Indus Waters Treaty. He emphasized that Pakistan remains firmly dedicated to resolving conflicts through peaceful means and diplomacy.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged the strategic importance of the Country Partnership Framework, noting its vital contributions to Pakistan’s progress in key sectors like energy, climate change, human development, and governance reforms. He thanked the World Bank for its timely and generous assistance during the catastrophic 2022 floods, which helped launch emergency relief and long-term rehabilitation efforts.

Dione, in response, praised Pakistan’s efforts to stabilize its economy and commended the government’s macroeconomic recovery measures. He reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Pakistan and supporting critical development areas.

Both sides concluded the meeting with a shared resolve to expand cooperation in the years ahead to achieve lasting economic growth, strengthen public institutions, and build a more prosperous and resilient future for the people of Pakistan.

This engagement highlights Pakistan’s focus on multilateral collaboration and economic diplomacy to address regional challenges and promote long-term stability.
